US Population nears 300 Million

I checked the US Census Bureau’s population clock project today, and saw that the nation has just reached 299 million people.

U.S. POPClock Projection

According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the resident population of the United States, projected to 06/17/06 at 21:19 GMT (EST+5) is
299,000,750
COMPONENT SETTINGS FOR JUNE 2006

One birth every……………………………. 8 seconds
One death every……………………………. 13 seconds
One international migrant (net) every………… 30 seconds
Net gain of one person every………………… 11 seconds

Using the stated figures, this means that the US population grows by 28,800 people every day. (There are 86,400 seconds in one day, divided by 11 seconds per person.)

At this rate, it will take only about 35 days to reach 300 million people. So the US should gain its 300 millionth person right around July 22nd or so.

I think it would be kinda cool if we reached 300,000,000 on Independence Day, don’t you?
