How many calories are in a Chipotle Burrito?
New! Check out my Chipotle Nutrition Calculator!
Chipotle Mexican Grill makes some of the best tasting burritos in the world – unfortunately, they’re not always the healthiest option available.
With their neat-o flash website, unconventional marketing, and commitment to natural foods, Chipotle restaurant projects and ultra-hip image. For this reason, many people are surprised to learn that Chipotle is actually owned by the McDonald’s corporation. In what must be a carefully calculated marketing strategy, Chipotle has made it difficult for consumers to learn the nutritional value of most of their menu items. In fact, one consumer reports receiving the following response when requesting nutritional information from the company:
‘Unfortunately, sorry, we have never performed any analyses of our food to determine nutritional information at this time. If you or your website clients have a specific allergy or food intolerance or the like, then I would be happy to help y’all with the ingredients.’
Fortunately, the good folks at Chipotlefan.com make it easy to estimate the nutritional value of a Chipotle burrito with this nifty Chipotle Nutrition Calculator. Here are the stats for my favorite, a steak burrito with black beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, 2 sauces and lettuce:

Wow, 49g of fat and 1280 calories! Not to even mention that the Sodium content is well over the USDA recommended maxiumu of 2400 mg per day.
How does your burrito rate?

If you prefer Qdoba, you’ll find that they’re a little bit more open about their nutrional value. My favorite, the naked chicken fajita classica burrito, no sour cream, cheese & pico de gallo & fiery haberno salsa has:

It is sad that you don’t know more about Chipotle. You my be correct in the calories and all that, but get ALL of your facts right. McDonalds has never nor will never own or control chipotle at any level and never has. It is true that early on, when chipotle stock went public mcdonalds bought shares, alot of shares. However, mcdonalds never had control of ANY thing chipotle has done or will ever do. Mcdonalds has since pulled all their stock in chipotle in early 2006 and currently hold absolutly NO stock in the company.

Sorry we made you sad, Josh. McDonald’s was the majority shareholder (and thus in full-control) of the Chipotle corporation for eight years. You are correct that they have since divested their ownership interest.

There seems to be a new Nutrition Calculator on the site now.
My favorite is the Burrito Bol with chicken, rice, black beans, mild salsa, cheese, sour cream and lettuce.
Works out to:
Calories 680
Cal from Fat 275
Total Fat 29g
Protein 52g
Not having the tortilla makes a pretty big difference. (290 calories and 9g fat)

this is pretty funny – i found this by googling “chipotle nutritional value” which also linked me to http://www.chipotle.com/ChipotleNutrition.pdf
although i’m sure that wasn’t available at the time this was originally posted.
anyway, sorry but – what do you expect with sour cream, cheese and a giant tortilla? i order a burrito bowl with rice, half servings of beans and guac, double veggies and salsa, and that’s only 320 calories and 10g of fat. if you looked at labels regularly you’d realize how much more fat and calories are in the usual foods we love. i realized this one day when i sat down to a dinner of pasta with some butter, parmesan, and a little truffle oil on top – 1700 cal and NINETY TWO grams of fat. yep.

The Chipotle here in Laguna Niguel CA has their nutritional values behind their paper menus that are avalible for anyone to take. Therefor, I was able to have them make me a Chicken, Onion and pepper with sour cream and hot sauce bowl and know how many carbs I was taking in. A very good tasting low carb mexican treat!

Wow, so you mean that a large amount of food has a lot of calories in it? That is just shocking.

I am hugely surprised to find out how unhealthy the food there is! I know now to get their salads. At least those have some b vitamins.

It’s relatively healthy if you are a vegetarian… 520 calories for a complete meal… burrito bowl; rice, black beans, green salsa, vegetables, guacamole, cheese

Grow up. 49g of fat in 1280 calories is about 1/3, aka a pretty normal/healthy ratio of fat. If you’re complaining about the 1280 calories then I suggest you look up the word “refrigerator.”
As for sodium, I’m totally with you.

There is NOTHING healthy about a Chipotle burrito!!! I had my first one today – ( well a quarter of it ) – it weight over a pound loaded with fat – couldn’t find any chicken in it,rice.. rice…and more rice, beans…. sour cream.. what ever…
1280 calories – sounds about right, because when you look on their website at the nutritional calculator… ADD IT UP!!!
Straight answer my CHICKEN Burrito I got today had about 2000 calories I know that!!!

These comments are hilarious. I’m loving the back and forth banter between everyone! Chipotle is yummy! I also like Qdoba, however moderation is key. I limit myself to either about once a month. I’m not going to deprive myself, but I’m also not going to eat it everyday!

Everyone’s all complaining about calories, but for me, I crave ‘em! I need them in order to gain muscle, and there are days where I don’t hit my 1200 calorie minimum because I don’t have much to eat. So I get really hungry and go into starvation mode, which is really bad for working out. Uggh. Such is the life of the poor college student…
