The Phone Spamming Doves at 1-800-679-0336

January 19, 2007 on 5:54 pm | In consumer protection, legal |

Over the last 3 weeks, my business has received at least 15 calls from the number 800-679-0336. Each call features a computer voice that says “Hi, this is Kami, may I please speak to the woman of the house?” No, Kami, you may not.

A little research shows that this number belongs to a “charity” calling themselves “The Dove Foundation.” They claim to be a christian charity, ironic since they’re clearly not living Jesus’ teachings - I’m quite sure that “Thou shalt not be a spammer asshole” is in there somewhere. At least it would be if the good book was written today.

Calling the number 800-679-0336 to complain brought on more frustration - they have a computer over there pretending to be a person. Using voice recognition software, this thing goes as far as to pretend that it’s an actual employee, saying “My name is Megan, and my Employee ID is ….”

Way to go, Christians - I guess it’s not lying if you have a computer do it for you, eh?

Give the number a call and see for yourself. In fact, since these jackasses seem to be immune from Do Not Call list violations owe to their fraudulent charity status, the only way to stop them may be to run the bill up on them. So please call, and please call often.

  1. RE: Dove, 800-678-0336,
Called them back, and actually got human on the phone, Kami, apparently. She said I had twenty seconds to inquire about DOVE. I exclaimed that SHE called ME in the middle of an important business call, and to remove me from their list.
They agreed to put me on their “no call” list, And I have not heard back from them since. This was like, two weeks ago.
Here’s the thing a friend advised me on: The reason I only had twenty seconds, is because it’s not a legit charity, otherwise they would qualify for gratis 800 statis, and would not care how long they spoke on the phone!

Gotcha, DOVE, you poser “christian” assholes!
    Spread the Gospel, Brother!

  2. I also received a “survey” phone call from these people. When I did not provide the answers she was looking for, she said I did not qualify for their survey and let me go.

  4. I am curious if this might apply here:

Although callers soliciting charitable contributions do not have to search the national registry, a for-profit telemarketer calling on behalf of a charitable organization must honor your request not to receive calls on behalf of that charity.

  5. i’ve been getting these calls almost every other day for the past few weeks. i’ve just emailed the dove foundation asking them to remove me from their call list and let them know that if i receive another phonecall, i will file official complaints with the Attorney General, FCC, Do Not Call Registry, and in Canada, the CRTC and Phonebusters. (thanks to the folks who posted this info previously! i’ve copied the info below.)

i urge everyone to contact the company and do the same. each of our actions will add up and make a difference. please take a moment to do this! thanks!
