All of this fuss over Rebecca Black and her surprise hit “Friday” got me to thinking.

“Hmm, what are some songs about other days of the week?”

I put this list together using my music collection and a few internet searches. I’ve left out the songs that I’ve never heard of before, so if I omitted your favorite, sorry about that.

If you know of any glaring omissions, leave ‘em in the comments.

(And for the record – I think Rebecca Black is wonderful. People need to stop picking on her – she’s only 13 years old for god’s sake. I’m happy for her. Plus, did you know that she’s donating the money she makes from the song to the Japan tsunami relief efforts?)

If you’re an aspiring artist looking to make it big, I’d shy away from days like Monday & Saturday – lots of competition out there. There seems to be a lot of room for songs about Wednesday & Thursday, so that’s where I’d concentrate my efforts. :)

Who saw the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremony and said, “Whoa, trippy! That would look awesome synched to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon?” Apparently, everyone did.

And now there’s a mashup video on YouTube. It’s pretty cool.

Not as great the the Pink Floyd/Planet Earth mashup, but cool nonetheless.

How to transfer a tape to a CD or create MP3 files

My grandfather was an amateur singer and songwriter. He passed away many years ago, leaving the few old cassette tapes my mother owns the only recordings of his performances in existence.

Over the Christmas holiday, I convinced my mother to let me take these precious keepsakes and make digital copies.

I am very grateful to the author of this article at NSFTools.com that explains how to convert the tapes to MP3 format. It is well written and has exactly enough (but not too much) detail.

The writeup makes use of the freely available Audacity software to capture the audio, normalize it, remove noise, and, finally, save as individual MP3’s.

I was just out of the service thumbing through the classifieds
When an ad that said:”Old Chevy” somehow caught my eye
The lady didn’t know the year,or even if it ran
But I had that thousand dollars in my hand

It was way back in the corner of this old ramshackle barn
Thirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp
When I pulled the cover off,it took away my breath
What she’d called a Chevy was a sixty six Corvette

I felt a little guilty as I counted out the bulls
But what a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel
I opened up the glove box and that’s when I found the note
The date was nineteen-sixty and this is what he wrote:

He said,”My name is Private Andrew Malone”
“If you’re reading this,then I didn’t make it home”

Well it didn’t take me long at all,I had her running good

I had her shining lika a diamond and I’d put the rag top down
All the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her though town

The buttons on the radio didn’t seem to work quite right
But it picked up that oldie show,especially late at night
I’d get the feeling sometimes,if I turned real quick I’d see
A soldier riding shotgun in the seat right next to me

It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone
Who fought for his country and never made it home
But for every dream that’s shattered,another one comes true
This car was once a dream of his,back when it was new

And I was proud to be riding with Private Malone

One night it was raining hard,I took the curve too fast
I still remember much about that fiery crash
Someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out
They didn’t get his name but I without a doubt
