TV Torrents, located at tvtorrents.com, is an excellent Bittorrent site. It has exactly what one would expect – Torrents for TV shows. Lots of them.

I’ve been using Google Chrome a lot lately, and in doing so, I saw that Google suggests “tvtorrents.com invitation code” as a popular search term. (When typing in just “tvtorrents.com”.)

I had no idea that TV Torrents was “invite only” these days. Are there really that many people out there looking for invitation codes? Are there really that many people looking to download TV shows?

Even though most television networks stream their TV shows online for free, I still find TV Torrents handy – downloading TV shows from this site allows me to transfer them to my Tivo & watch on a big screen. Also, the downloaded versions of the TV shows have no commercials.

I suppose I could be coerced into giving out an invite code or two… If the price is right. :)

UPDATE: I’ve given out most of my alloted invites. If you’d like one, post in the comments & maybe someone will send one your way. I don’t know that it will be me, though – I’ve only got one left, and I’m saving it for a special occasion. :)

UPDATE TWO: I have decided to close the comments on this blog post and move the discussion to this forum topic. Please post TVT invite requests there. Thanks!

First Pam & Tommy, then Paris Hilton. Pretty soon Kim Kardashian followed them up. Hell, even Screech got in on the tape action. Now comes news that 61-year-old Gene Simmons also has a tape making the rounds, and long-time girlfriend Shannon Tweed is not his co-star.

There was some early speculation that it was not in fact Gene, but instead a Gene Simmons lookalike in the starring role. Gene’s lawyers have put that speculation to rest, however, by sending these cease and desist letters to the operators of Gene’s Secret, the website selling access to the video for a mere $24.95 per month.

Rumor has it that the tape was filmed in 2003, and that the girl involved is an Australian model by the name of Elisa, and that the two met while working on a promo for Frank’s energy drink.

Personally, I have no desire to see this thing, so I’m not even going to bother searching for a torrent. However, if you were so inclined, I’m sure it’d be pretty easy to find a torrent link to two, if you know where to look.

How do you interpret BitTorrent file names?

Bittorrent filenames are often filled with cryptic abbreviations, leaving the uninitiatied puzzled as to what they mean.

The general standard is 350mb per 1 hour TV show (44 minutes), or 175 mb per half hour show (22 minutes). Movies are generally ripped at a higher quality, so a typical movie is around 700MB or higher.

Season/Episode number is usually specified in the format SSxEE. So, for example, Season 1, Episode 9 would be denoted as 01×09, or S1×09.
