Tom Brady Suspended? Not Likely.
November 6, 2007 on 10:22 am | In sports, windows xp | No CommentsThis morning, the Blogosphere erupted with rumors that Tom Brady has been suspended “for at least 4 games” for failing an NFL drug test. The source of this rumor seems to be the Opie and Anthony radio show.
I just heard on the radio (it was Opie and Anthony so take it with a grain of salt) that Tom Brady failed a drug test and will be suspended for four games. This is nothing more than a rumor right now, but if true it would be off the charts schadenfreude.
Agreed, it would be huge schadenfreude. To me, however, this sounds plainly false - the NFL has a complex set of procedures in place for dealing with alleged violations of the substance abuse policy, including re-testing and appeal provisions. While I’m not intimately familiar with these policies, I’m quite sure that step one isn’t “Call Opie and Anthony…”
UPDATE
As I said, and as indicated here, it just ain’t true.
Pro Football Talk reports that the Opie and Anthony Show has been “reporting” the Brady suspension as part of a regular Tuesday morning gag they do with fake news stories. Apparently a lot of people didn’t get the joke.
To repeat: Tom Brady has not been suspended. Nothing to see here.
